Jenny's Holiday Cottage
|
Jenny's holiday cottage is situated in the old quarter of Newlyn, away from the bustle of the busy fish market, but only a short stroll to the Strand where you can buy fresh fish and crab for your evening meal. It is an excellent holiday home for up to six people. Like most of the traditional homes in Newlyn, it is built of Cornish granite and local timber. While retaining the character of the original cottage, it has been furnished to provide modern standards of comfort. In colder weather, the sitting room can be warmed by electricity or a traditional coal or wood burning fire. Dating from the days of horse-drawn vehicles, no allowance was made for parking in front of the property, but today there is a 'pay and display' car park nearby on the Strand. However, unloading and loading is not a problem when you arrive and leave. The accommodation consists of an entrance hall, sitting room and a kitchen with the usual facilities including a microwave oven and a washer/dryer. From the kitchen there is access to a small walled yard. The bathroom with a hand basin, W.C., bath and separate shower is also situated on the ground floor.
Stairs from the entrance hall lead to the two main double bedrooms on the first floor. A winding staircase then leads to 'the crow's-nest' with spacious beamed accommodation and two single beds, ideal for younger members of the family. A television and a video are provided in the sitting room. Duvets and duvet covers are provided, but the guests are asked to supply their own sheets , pillow cases and towels. Storage heating, when needed, is included in the rental, but electricity for hot water, cooking and additional heating is supplied by a meter taking £1 coins. We regret that pets cannot be accommodated. The cottage is named after the fishing boat 'The Jenny Lind', owned by the family who occupied the cottage over a hundred years ago. They in turn named their vessel after the famous Victorian singer, Jenny Lind, known as 'the Swedish Nightingale'.
The weekly rates for this cottage vary between £150 - £475. Please contact us for further details. Jenny's Cottage, in the heart of a typical Cornish fishing port, is within easy reach of many delights of West Cornwall, including the Red Lion pub with it's lovely beer garden with sea views, which serves food as well as having a friendly atmosphere; the Smugglers Restaurant is close by for fine dining; and for the day time there's the Passmore Edwards Newlyn Art Gallery with its regular exhibitions - for more information on Newlyn, and the surrounding area, please visit our Newlyn page.
